The South African Premier Soccer League's 2008-09 season has come to an exciting end but locals still have a lot of the beautiful game coming up in the form of the 2009 Fifa Confederations Cup which the country is hosting.

While soccer lovers always look forward to this period when the champions are crowned, it also becomes a period of moaning as they then complain there's nothing to do or watch.

That is where the African Soccer Television show comes in as they screen highlights from football leagues around the continent as part of SABC1 Sport's Laduma programme on Sundays at 2.30pm.

The line-up this weekend features, among others, the grudge encounter between Dynamos and Highlanders in the Zimbabwe Premier League where Dynamos massacred their bitter rivals 4-0.

Tension ran high in Malawi during that country's Presidential Cup encounter between MTL Wanderers and Escom United. After 120 minutes of play and the teams still deadlocked at 1-all it took penalties to decide the champions, with Wanderers triumphing 5-4.

South African teams no longer have an interest in the two Confederation of African Football competitions, but Zambia's Red Arrows humiliated ENPPI from Egypt 3-0 at home in round 16 of the Confederations Cup.

In the CAF Champions League, Zimbabwe's surprise package Monomotapa continued their fairytale ride when they accounted for Asec Abidjan 2-0 at home while Zambia's Zesco United beat Mali's Djoliba AC 2-1.

The show will also highlight the country's readiness for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
