All Christians must do what McCauley does

I want to commend Pastor Ray McCauley of the Rhema Church for his progressive views.

I read that McCauley has undertaken to pray for President Jacob Zuma and help tackle South Africa's problems.

Firstly, McCauley understands the Bible, which says pray for those in authority: "Therefore I exhort, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour." - 1 Timothy 2:1-3.

Praying for all is a biblical command. Those who call themselves Christians, including Reverend Kenneth Meshoe, must note Paul.

Politically we are free to differ with Zuma, but biblically we are charged to pray for him and all those who govern, including Western Cape premier Hellen Zille.

We must pray for them, not because we agree with them, but so that we might lead a peaceable life in godliness and reverence - but more importantly, because this is good and acceptable to God.

Secondly, McCauley is also part of the solution to our country' s problems . His church is involved in extensive social welfare programmes that are having a powerful influence in the fight against poverty.
