A storm has wreaked havoc and left many villagers of Mohodi, GaManthata, near Senwabarwana, homeless after it destroyed their properties at the weekend.

Villagers are still reeling from shock following the damage caused by the hailstorm last Friday .

A Sowetan team yesterday visited the dusty village and found many villagers hard at work with repairs. Many houses had their roofs blown off and window panes broken.

Sana Maluleke, a pensioner in the village, said she was asleep with her four grandchildren when the storm tore off the roof of her house.

She said the roof was blown off before she could even evacuate the children to the other house in the yard.

"I was sleeping with my four grandchildren when the roof was blown off and fortunately for us no one was injured," said Maluleke.

She said she did not know how she was going to repair the damaged property because her farmworker husband did not earn much.

Municipal spokesperson Timothy Molopa said officials had been sent to assess the damage so that the municipality could help.
