Television actor Mduduzi Mabaso says he has suffered so much physical abuse at the hands of his fiancée he has decided to end the relationship.

Mabaso, who playsSuffocate on's Rhythm City, said he had endured years of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of the mother of his two children, Veronica Maseko.

"She once assaulted me so badly that the shirt I was wearing got torn," he said.

Mabaso, 34, was reacting to a Sowetan article in which Maseko, 29, accused him of abusing her emotionally and financially.

"He hardly sleeps at home," she told us. "When he is around he sleeps on the sofa.

"He is neglecting our children. Each time he gets paid he disappears for days and only resurfaces when he is broke."

But Mabaso, who has also appeared in international hit movies such as Blood Diamond and Hotel Rwanda, said he was put off by Maskeko's aggression.

"The relationship is over. I can't take the abuse. I am prepared to look after my two boys," he said.

The winner of the SA Film and Television Awards said the affair turned sour when he became famous.

"She changed the moment I got into the limelight. She became possessive and jealous.

"The trust is gone," he said.

But Maseko has denied ever assaulting Mabaso.

"He is lying. How can I assault a grown-up like him? If he says we are over then I am fine," she said.

"I just want him to look after his children."
