Free State Stars have begun the new season's preparations with a clearance sale of some of their top players, including Jimmy Khauleza and Christopher Tsotetsi.

This came barely 24 hours after the merciless Ea Lla Koto drubbed neighbours Bloemfontein Celtic 5-1 in an Absa Premiership match on Saturday.

Other players put on transfer by the club are Mpho "SMS" Maleka, Hleza Mofeli, Hartman Torombo, David Telfer and Simla Mashinini.

"We don't want to waste time starting with our preparations for the new season when the plan is to challenge for the honours," said Stars boss Mike Mokoena.

"It is clear we could have been in the running for the league title had we started earlier with Steve Komphela and Themba Sithole as joint coaches.

"We are also looking at signing three Brazilian players in the next few days," Mokoena said.

On their 5-1 win over Celtic, Mokoena said: "It is great that Celtic survived in the Premiership.

"Many lies were spread in soccer circles last week about that game. We wanted to win and show South Africans that we subscribe to fair play."
