Liquor traders who failed to convert their old licences by last Friday have been thrown a lifeline by the Gauteng Liquor Authority.

The authority (GLA) has given the traders until the end of August to convert licences granted under the 1989 regulations to those required by the 2003 provincial act.

Uyanda Mbuli said the GLA was concerned that only a quarter of the 16000 traders had submitted applications for bottle stores, restaurants, hotels, bars and clubs. - Vusi Ndlovu
