An unhappy task

Last week we took the painful decision to publish a story about the Johannesburg magistrate's court deciding to haul in Bishop Barnabas Lekganyane of the Zion Christian Church because a young man claims the bishop is his father.

Last week we took the painful decision to publish a story about the Johannesburg magistrate's court deciding to haul in Bishop Barnabas Lekganyane of the Zion Christian Church because a young man claims the bishop is his father.

Predictably some readers were unhappy about the story, especially those who are members of the bishop's church.

Like them, we wondered whether there was any point in pursuing a matter when the man's own mother questions her son's sanity.

We take no special pleasure in repeating what we know might be baseless allegations but would be failing in our duty if we neglected to report them once the courts decide they are worthy of their consideration.
