must win for pirates

Orlando Pirates have only themselves to blame that the fate of the Absa Premiership title is not in their hands.

They are now hoping that Santos will do them a massive favour by beating SuperSport United in their last match in Stellenbosch on Sunday.

But Pirates must first beat AmaZulu at Ellis Park Stadium at 3pm tomorrow to stand any chance of clinching the R10million first prize.

The silly goals they conceded could come back to haunt them.

Expect the hordes of Happy People to invade the "Park of Pain" in the hope that the season will end favourably. But even if things do not go their way, Pirates must still be happy with a runners-up finish as it will guarantee them participation in the African Champions League.

Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza wants to see another star added to their badge after winning the Champions League in 1995. Pirates, who will be without hard man Benson Mhlongo due to a one-match suspension, are still the only club in southern Africa to win this tournament.

Pirates coach Ruud Krol, who was named April's Coach of the Month yesterday, will rely on the likes of Teko Modise, Katlego Mashego and Dikgang Mabalane. Krol also has the evergreen Lucas Thwala who is a strong contender for the player of the season and players' player of the season awards.

Usuthu have exciting players like Dumisane Ngwenya, Myron Shongwe, Bradley Ritson and Thabo Mabaso capable of upsetting Pirates.

l Still reeling from a 3-0 drubbing to Santos, Kaizer Chiefs should brace themselves for yet another tough game when they take on Platinum Stars at Olen Park tomorrow at 3pm.

This will be coach Muhsin Ertugral's last game as coach of Chiefs, who have been blowing hot and cold this season despite winning the MTN 8.
