Riot Hlatshwayo

It was all systems go as preparations for the inauguration of Mpumalanga's new premier David Mabuza continued yesterday.

Workers were busy at work preparing part of the KaNyamazane Stadium to accommodate more people when the event takes place on Monday.

Traffic management, police, emergency medical services and other top government officials were locked in a meeting in a conference room at the stadium when Sowetan arrived to check on the preparations.

Mabuza's spokesperson Ntime Skhosana said not less than 5000 people from all the province's three districts would attend the "historic" event.

Mabuza is expected to set the tone for service delivery and outline his vision for the next five years.

Former premier Thabang Makwetla is among those who will attend the function.

"Priorities to be tackled will, among others, include rural development, education, health and the fight against crime and corruption," said Skhosana yesterday.

Mabuza was sworn in as premier by the South and North Gauteng Deputy Judge President Phineas Mojapelo at the Mpumalanga legislature on Wednesday.

Municipalities and constituency offices have been given the task with making transport arrangements for community members wishing to attend Mabuza's inauguration ceremony.
