Jared Lovett told to stay out of trouble

Rodney Berman has read the riot act to Jared "The Storm" Lovett for his alleged shenanigans away from the boxing ring.

"I don't want to hear one more word about Jared Lovett being involved in an out-of-the-ring punch up," warned Berman.

"The kid has to know that he is a professional boxer and that demands living a clean life, free of controversial incidents, such as the one which recently took place at a restaurant.'

Lovett, Lee Dyer, Zane Mandel (all professional fighters) and Aubrey Lovett (Jared's father) are accused of assaulting diners at San Vineros restaurant in the south of Johannesburg a fortnight ago.

Berman promotes Lovett under the umbrella of Golden Gloves. He has matched Lovett, Prospect of 2008, with another rising star, Thomas Oosthuizen for the IBO Youth light heavyweight belt.

Berman will stage their shootout at Emperors Palace on July 11. The main bout pits Phillip Ndou against Australian-based Lovemore Ndou (no relation) in an IBO junior welterweight title eliminator, with the winner to fight Matthew Hatton.

In another super fight, Simphiwe Vetyeka and Eric Barcelona of the Philippines will fight for the vacant IBO bantamweight belt.

Golden Gloves publicist Terry Pettifer said the charismatic Lovett has already built up a sinister reputation in the streets, purportedly registering a number of assault raps.

"Definitely portrayed as the bad guy ahead of his confrontation with the phlegmatic Oosthuizen, the southern suburbs boxer will have to toe the line if this dream meeting is to become a reality," he said.

"Mind you, numerous observers have said Lovett has become a constant target for trouble seekers, keen on establishing a reputation of their own."
