ASTV treats fans to derby highs

The bragging rights and claim to being the best in Soweto are said to have gone to Orlando Pirates who beat arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs three times this season.

They don't mention Moroka Swallows who beat both within a fortnight for the first time in many moons.

For Pirates, this was also a rare achievement as they had not registered a clean sweep over Amakhosi since 1997.

The Soweto derby is always uppermost in the minds of South Africans and the African Soccer Television show could not resist bringing the highlights of the last encounter to viewers on SABC1 Sport's Laduma programme on Sunday.

The ASTV's "2010 We are Ready" campaign shifts its focus to the North West province after looking into the state of readiness in Gauteng. The campaign is part of a marketing tool for the coming Confederations Cup and the 2010 Fifa World Cup that South Africa are hosting.

Other highlights are of the Presidents Cup semi-final between Bakili Bullets and MTL Wanderers in Malawi. MTL Wanderers won by 4-3 on penalties after the game ended goalless even after extra time.

The final is to be played by MTL Wanderers and Escom United and ASTV will bring that for the viewers next week.

The Ivorian league is also highlighted on the programme.
