The ANC Youth League continues to throw its weight around in the era of president-elect Jacob Zuma, with the latest stance being its decision to demand that some of its graduates be included in the national and provincial cabinets.

Sowetan has learnt that the league has asked Zuma to appoint its former presidents, Fikile Mbalula and Malusi Gigaba, MP Thandi Tobias, outgoing Provincial and Local Government Minister Sicelo Shiceka, and outgoing Safety and Security Minister Nathi Mthethwa to top posts.

The league's national spokesperson, Floyd Shivambu, said they were confident some of the names they had submitted to the ANC would be among the ministers and deputy ministers to be announced by Zuma on Sunday.

"There is a very clear commitment under the current leadership to take contributions of the ANC Youth League more seriously.

"The argument we have made in this case is that we want a generational mix in the cabinet, and we think the ANC has heard our call."
