A film student is the envy of his peers after he was selected by Coca-Cola to direct an advert promoting the FIFA Confederations Cup.
Mfundo Mkhize, 21, a final year student at the AFDA film school in Johannesburg, is directing an advert to promote the association between Coca-Cola and the FIFA Confederations Cup, that kicks off on June 14.
Mkhize was awarded the position in April after a wide search at film schools.
He was given two weeks to conduct castings, source a location to shoot the commercial, sort out the wardrobe, find a camera crew and everything else that goes into putting an advert together.
His first attempt was beamed across all TV channels on Monday, but he was not happy with the final result so he has gone back to the drawing board to prepare the second screening, which will be seen on 25 May.
"Coca-Cola has given me all the encouragement and support in my quest to produce the Ultimate Goal ad, which will be screened throughout the FIFA Confederations Cup.
"It's incredible that someone understands the vision I have and more than that, they are doing everything possible to make it happen for me," he said. He said he was busy preparing for his final advert.
Coca-Cola SA's strategic business unit manager Zayd Abrahams said: "Coca-Cola believes there is huge potential among the South African youth.
"All that's needed is the correct support and guidance."
