Mpumalanga police have posted a R100000 reward to anyone providing information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the killers of speaker of Mbombela municipality Jimmy Mohlala earlier this year.

Mohlala was shot dead at his home in KaNyamazane, outside Nelspruit, in front of his son Tshepiso, 21, allegedly by two gunmen on January 4.

At the time of the attack, Tshepiso was parking his father's car in the garage.

Mohlala was shot in the chest and died on the spot while his son was shot in the leg.

Police later questioned three men in connection with the murder but released them after establishing that they were not involved in the crime.

In a surprise turn of events, Mohlala's widow, Bonny, and Tshepiso were taken in for questioning. They later claimed they were assaulted by the police.

Asked to comment on the reward offer, Bonny told Sowetan "there is nothing to say" but confirmed that a lawsuit against the police relating to the alleged assault was pending.
