DA WANTS MAYOR TO STEP DOWN

While the new government under the leadership of Jacob Zuma promises to run an administration free of nepotism, fraud and corruption, the DA in the Molemole municipality in Limpopo wants the (ANC) mayor to step down.

The mayor, Monica Mohale, has been accused by her colleagues of working in cahoots with suspended municipal manager Sudan Lethole, acting municipal manager Samuel Raselaya, acting chief finance officer Gilbert Matlala, and Ernest Mokganya of the Local Economic Development to defraud the council of millions of rands in the awarding of tenders.

Lethole was suspended early last year after a R194000 tender was "awarded to his friends without being advertised".

According to powers vested on the mayor by the municipal council, only tenders of less than R150000 could be awarded without being advertised. In view of this, the municipal council took a resolution to give Mohale a mandate to appoint independent investigators to probe Lethole.

"But 13 months later, Mohale has yet to appoint the investigators. She instead went on to entice some council members to reinstate Lethole," said Calvin Matjee of the DA.

Council spokesperson Timothy Molopa said the allegations were made by those who had a personal vendetta against Mohale.
