Police in KwaZulu-Natal say they cannot proceed with criminal charges - including statutory rape - against Makhumbuza High School teachers accused of sex crimes until the victims themselves lay charges.
Teaching resumed at the school in Umlazi, south of Durban, yesterday. The situation at the school was tense and police were monitoring the situation.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Buhle Ngidi said that they are not in a position to prosecute the teachers implicated in the sex scandal. He said they would wait for the parents or victims themselves to press charges.
