The ANC in Limpopo has sent Mopani executive mayor and provincial chairman for the South African Local Government Association Humphrey Mokgobi to the national assembly in Cape Town.

Mokgobi would be replaced by mayor of the greater Letaba municipality, Joshua Matlou, who is relatively the youngest mayor in the country as the new executive mayor for the Mopani district municipality.

Mokgobi left the district at a time it was faced with the scourge of tribalism when the Pedi-speaking people were entangled in a leadership struggle with the Tsonga-speaking people.

The regional conference was postponed three times due to the infighting along tribal lines among ANC bigwigs .

This was after the Tsongas preferred Derrick Ngobeni who has moved to Parliament, while the Pedi-speakers wanted Matlou.

Speaking after the swearing in as new executive mayor, Matlou said: "My aim as the new mayor is to work harmoniously with all the people."
