It never rains but it pours for self-applauding celebrity couple Mandla Mthembu and Khanyisile Mbau.

Sowetan can exclusively reveal that the couple - known for bragging about their fleet of luxury vehicles that include a Porsche Carrera, Porsche Cayenne and two Lamborghinis - owe a whopping R78 000 in outstanding traffic fines.

And as the couple sinks deeper into the mire of debt, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) wants Mthembu arrested for the offences.

A police source said: "Mthembu has a pile of warrants of arrest. In fact the JMPD's tracing people have been to his previous addresses. They want him locked up."

This was confirmed by JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar.

"We are hot on his heels. We will get him nomakanjani (no matter what). He is a driver who shows total disrespect for the law," said Minnaar.

Minnaar said Mthembu had a "cocktail" of about 157 outstanding traffic fines.

When contacted for comment Mthembu said: "I will talk to them and hear what they have to say. But why are you always on my case?" He then hung up.

Our police source went on: "Once we nab him he will remain in custody until he has forked out the whole amount."

A week ago Sowetan reported that the self-proclaimed tycoon skipped two payments on one of his two Lamborghinis.

According to records at Absa, Mthembu was expected to pay a R110 811,77 by last Friday or lose the vehicle.

This comes a fortnight after Sowetan reported that he had not paid maintenance - which is R4000 a month - for his two children and former wife, Dolly Matshabe, for the past three months.

Matshabe confirmed yesterday that Mthembu has yet to make the payment.
