A Soweto doctor accused of raping two rape victims who had gone to his consulting room for help will today know whether he will be granted bail by the Randfontein regional court.
Ninadu Paul Mafulu is accused by the women who came to him for inspection at different times between 2007 and last year.
It is alleged that the first complainant went to the doctor for an examination in 2007 after she was raped.
The doctor is said to have examined the woman but told her she had to return for a second visit because there was fluid in her vagina that he had to drain.
A second appointment was made and when the woman arrived the doctor fondled her under the pretence that he was trying to remove the liquid from her vagina.
He allegedly told her that he had not succeeded in removing all of the liquid and advised her to visit him again.
This allegedly happened repeatedly until last year when another rape victim, who had sought help from the same doctor, had had enough of the abuse.
She laid a charge at Protea police.
That was when the first victim also came forward to support the claim.
Mafulu is a well-known doctor in the Protea area and is also known to nearly all magistrates at the courts.
He had frequently testified in other rape cases in their courts, so some of the magistrates had to recuse themselves from the case.
Judgement on his bail application will be passed today before the case is sent to another court where an impartial magistrate will preside over it.
