Lady of the moment, multi-award winning songbird Lira has found new music fortunes through the resurgence of her musical career.
However, this phenomenal success must be making kwaito kingpin Arthur Mafokate think twice. People spoke in hushed tones at the South African Music Awards on Saturday about how Mafokate had made a big mistake by letting the talented singer he had discovered to go.
This follows Lira's coup of winning four awards, including the prestigious Album of the Year, Best Female Artist and Best Adult Contemporary categories at the MTN South African Music Awards at the Sun City Superbowl.
Lira was first recorded by Mafokate's 999 stable, giving the singer her first break in the music industry about seven years ago. She first came into the music scene as a kwaito artist and struggled to cut it in the industry.
However, her fortunes have turned for the better in the last four years when she delved into the soul/pop music genre, culminating in Saturday's triumph.
Siya Ngwekazi, the co-presenter of Real Goboza, during his interview with Lira after winning, must have stirred the hornet's nest when he described Lira's triumph's as Mafokate's loss.
However yesterday, Mafokate did not want to say anything about the issue. "I have no comment," he said.
