Although bare fist fighters, known as musangwe, have agreed to fight for cash in public, they have vowed not to abandon their decades-old playground at the cattle quarantine in Tshifudi, Limpopo.

The agreement comes after the fighters took part in the launch of the musangwe fist fight tournament by JTK Productions on Saturday at the University of Venda stadium.

The sport is still practised as a heritage game by the new generation in the far north of Limpopo, mainly by VhaVenda.

Die-hard participants are resisting to move from the cattle kraal site, saying it is part of their heritage.

However, on Saturday fighters were introduced to a new chapter, fighting for money.

Kaizer Nengovhela of JTK Productions said they had introduced money and open play to afford fighters a chance to make a living out of their hobby.

He said a fighter who will be crowned king will pocket a R25000 cash prize.
