Thousands of pupils are expected to pack the Orlando Communal Hall today for the beginning of the Soweto Career Day and Expo.

The two-day event will give pupils and the general public an opportunity to interact with tertiary institutions, companies offering employment and other exhibitors who will be present.

This year's theme is "let's get cracking, it's all for you".

Project manager Kgupi Gunguluza said they were expecting more than 5000 people to visit the expo.

Gates open at 8am and close at 5pm.

"Our objective is to fight unemployment by giving information to pupils from any grade, and to give graduates an opportunity to see what careers await them," said Gunguluza, who also said more than 100 schools from Soweto alone had been invited.

"We are calling on anyone who has a family member who is interested in the expo to come and attend."

Gunguluza said the expo began in 2004, and "since then it has been growing in leaps and bounds".

The expo is sponsored by Systems Application and Products, Motsweding FM, City of Joburg, African Youth Expo, and the Gauteng department of education.

The list of exhibitors include IDC, Telkom, Eskom, Lovelife, Monash SA, Woolworths, University of Pretoria, Tshwane University of Technology and south western Gauteng colleges.

For any information on the expo contact Gunguluza on 011-69-7934 or 083-7610-450.
