LOC visits Malaysia

The Local Organising Committee is heading to the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur on May 7 and 8 to update the Asians on the 2010 World Cup preparations.

The Local Organising Committee is heading to the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur on May 7 and 8 to update the Asians on the 2010 World Cup preparations.

Rich Mkhondo, the LOC's chief communications officer, said their delegation to the Asian Football Confederation congress will be led by LOC chief executive Danny Jordaan.

Also attending the 23rd congress, which will also elect an Asian representative to serve on the Fifa executive committee, will be the world soccer governing body's president, Sepp Blatter.

"The chief executive officer [Jordaan] will make a presentation to the congress on the latest developments with regard to the 2010 World Cup," said Mkhondo.

"It's a routine exercise that the chief executive officer and the LOC have been doing for sometime now with all the soccer confederations, we want to give them first-hand information so that they don't have to rely on the media."

Jordaan and his delegation have been travelling globally in the past 10 months to various congresses to promote the World Cup taking place here from June 11 to July 11 next year. Last month they were in Denmark for the congress of the powerful European Football Confederation.

The LOC top brass have also been to gatherings of the soccer family on the continent.
