International reggae poet Linton Kwesi Johnson wowed his music fans at Newtown Park in Johannesburg at the weekend.
Known as LKJ, the Jamaican star delivered a brilliant show leaving the crowd crying for more.
The night kicked off with an exciting performance by Nizah, a local reggae artist who also got the revellers on their feet.
After him, award-winning poet Kgafela Magogodi came on to show South African poetry at its best.
Then came one of the country's best reggae groups, Tidalwaves, who perfectly geared up the audience for LKJ.
Dressed formally, the dapper poet took the people on a musical journey from the rebellious generation of the 1970s up to the present time, captivating the crowd with his powerful lyrics of war on the streets.
The London-based poet reminded people of the Newcross fire in 1981 in the United Kingdom - and the use of the police's infamous stop-and-search law which blighted the lives of many black people in the 1980s.
His pulsating songs, that included Licence To Kill,Making History,Song of Blood and What About Working Class,reminded the appreciative crowd of what an original voice he still is.
