The long weekend will be a busy one for some pupils in Free State and North West who will be engaged in the provincial championships of the Danone Nations Cup and Coca Cola Football Stars competitions.

Free State will be a hive of activity tomorrow with the Nations Cup playoffs taking place at Mangaung sports grounds in Bloemfontein where 10 primary schools will battle it out for a place at the national event.

JJ Kubheka will enter the race as hot favourites based on previous experience. Other schools in the fray are Tlhoriso, Tikwe, Ntshwephepha, Meqheleng, Nthute, Unicom and Relebeletse.

The champions will play against other provincial winners in Soweto from May 29 to 31, with the national champions getting the right to represent the country at the world championships in Brazil in October.

In the Football Stars eliminator that will also be staged at Mangaung sports grounds on Monday and the province's perennial representatives, Harmony High School, is it is expected to stroll to the provincial title.

The North West provincial leg of Football Stars will be hosted at Potchefstroom University tomorrow. The focus will be on St Mary's HighSchool.

Themba "Scooter" Tshabalala, South African Schools Football Association said they expect a tough challenge in the Football Stars considering that from this year there are no selections, instead it is a knockout format.
