Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality in Mpumalanga will investigate allegations that two farmers in the area had not allowed their workers to vote.
About 350 Mohulwana Farm workers were allegedly stopped from voting on Wednesday. Only seven workers voted after party leaders and IEC officials confronted the farmer.
Farm workers said the problem started long before the elections, when farmers stopped political parties from campaigning on their properties.
At HM Pieterse Farm in the Groblersdal area, the farmer's son-in-law allegedly stopped vehicles transporting about 100 workers to the polling stations.
An employee who wished to remain anonymous said: "He told the drivers that no kaffirs were allowed on his property and that his workers were not going to vote because they were good people."
Municipal electoral officer Langa Kabini confirmed the incidents. He said party leaders and IEC officials finally convinced Mohulwana Farm owner to transport the workers to the stations. He said out of about 250 workers, the owner took seven to vote.
"The majority of the workers did not vote and we will investigate the matter," said Kabini yesterday.
