The Musina local municipality in Limpopo has denied reports that the farmworker who died in an accident on election day was actually refused an opportunity by his employer to go and vote.

Chamnorwa Mafume, 52, died when he allegedly lost control of the tractor he was driving and it hit a tree.

The incident happened at a farm near Musina at about 8.30am on Wednesday.

The ANC in the province had claimed Mafume was forced to work while his colleagues had gone to vote.

But municipal spokesperson Wilson Dzebu said Mafume had no business voting because he was a Zimbabwean national.

Dzebu said local mayor Caroline Mahasela and Speaker Tshenuwani Farisani had visited the accident scene to verify the allegations and were satisfied with the explanation.

Police were investigating thecircumstances that might have led to the accident .
