Well-known personalities dressed warmly in their winter garb before casting their votes.
At Holy Family Preparatory School in Killarney, north of Johannesburg, radio and television presenter Pabi Moloi and her mother Nana Moloi came together to vote yesterday.
Nana was dressed in a track suit and an orange cap, while her daughter wore jeans and a white jacket.
The two were also excited to see former president Thabo Mbeki and his wife Zanele who came to vote. They took photos of the former first couple.
"I have to get their photo. I hope the button does not jam," said Nana.
Pabi said she was happy to have eventually voted.
Actress Grethe Fox, who plays villain Barker Haines' (Robert Whitehead) assistant in the local TV drama series Isidingo, also voted.
"It is always exciting to do this, looking forward to make the mark," she said.
