The Local Organising Committee is inundated with offers from more South African companies to purchase tickets for the Confederations Cup.
This comes after specialist banking group Investec paid R3,5million to buy 50000 tickets for their staff, clients and South Africans in general on Easter Monday.
Sowetan can also reveal that various government departments are following suit in support of the tournament also known as the "Festival of Champions".
LOC chairman Irvin Khoza told Sowetan yesterday that they were incredibly impressed with the response of the South African corporate world.
"Following Investec's announcement that they were buying 5000 tickets for South Africans to watch the Confederations Cup, many companies have come forward," he said.
"South African companies are making it known loud and clear that they want to see the citizens of this country going to the venues where the games will be played.
"There will be some announcements we will be making in the next few days.
"We are also excited that various government departments are coming on board too.
"The government departments partnership announcement has been temporarily put on hold due to the general elections in our country.
"We did not want people to say it's part of the electioneering process," said Khoza, who is happy that ordinary South Africans were also applying for the tickets.
"The situation has improved tremendously in the past few weeks. We still urge our people to apply for tickets so that we can show the world that South Africans are passionate about soccer."
He said their challenge was around the games featuring New Zealand, Iraq and the United States, but is hopeful that South Africans will also embrace them.
"This is where we need the media to help us in informing our people about those countries, they are the champions in their continents."
Jerome Valcke, Fifa general secretary, said they were pleased with the response of the South African companies to bulk ticket purchases.
