Correctional Services said that “matters are under control” at Johannesburg’s Sun City Prison on Wed.
Though the South African Football Players Union is fully behind the ANC, it will not dictate to their members to vote for the ruling party tomorrow.
The union has over 900 members and is affiliated to Cosatu. Their publicist Elvis Sekgobela made no bones yesterday about their stance being "to vote for the ruling party".
They made this plea at a media briefing in Johannesburg yesterday through their president Hareaipha "Simba" Marumo, the Platinum Stars' forward. The briefing was also attended by Stars' controversial linkman Jabu Pule, Free State Stars skipper Duncan Lechesa, his Bidvest Wits counterpart Sibusiso Mahlangu and former professional Josep Ngake.
Sekgobela said the above-mentioned players had openly declared their "indisputable support for the ANC. We are happy that the majority of our members will vote for the ANC, but we are not forcing them to do so. It is their right to vote for a party of their choice," he said. - Mcelwa Nchabeleng
