Police in Limpopo are investigating the brutal murder of a woman who was found stabbed a several times.

The 21-year-old woman's body was discovered in her room in Tibane village outside Polokwane yesterday morning.

Police spokesperson Super-intendent Mohale Ramatseba identified the dead woman as Kate Masoma.

He said they found the body with nine stab wounds.

Ramatseba said preliminary investigations had revealed the woman was stabbed seven times on the body and twice in the chest.

It is not yet clear whether she was stabbed somewhere else and her body later dumped in her room or whether the attack took place in the same room.

"We have launched a manhunt for the suspects in connection with the murder.

"We also appeal to the community in Tibane to assist us with information that might lead to the arrest of the suspects," Ramatseba said.

He said they were awaiting postmortem results that would determine whether the woman was first raped before being stabbed to death.

"For now we can safely say Masoma was found dead in her room, with several stab wounds. We just hope to get to the bottom of the matter," he said.

"At the moment it is still difficult for us to make any conclusions on the matter because we are still trying to gather facts on it," he said.

Investigations are still continuing.
