Moruti Mthalane on Saturday night showed his greatness as the best flyweight boxer in South Africa when he blasted Lehlohonolo Ramagole in three rounds.

Some 1500 fight fans at the University of North West screamed their lungs out calling for a stoppage as early as the first round of this mismatch.

But neither Ramagole's cornermen nor referee Amos Lusenga heeded that call. Brutality continued in round two. Ramagole, a novice of six fights, had lost the plot in his plan to dethrone Mthalane as the national champion.

An enraged Peter Ngatane, chairperson of Boxing SA, rushed to Ramagole's corner and literally wrestled with the boxer's cornermen advising them to throw in the towel.

Mthalane improved his knockout ratio to 16 from 23 wins against two losses. That was his third defence. All came via stoppages. Mthalane, 26, from KwaZulu-Natal, is being channelled towards the IBF fight.

In fact, Mthalane lost to champion Filipino, Nonito Donaire, last November. That fight was stopped in round six to due a laceration in Mthalane's eye.

Meanwhile, Mthalane's stable mate from the camp of Nick Durandt, Lesley Sekotswe, stopped Nkosana Sobethu in six round for the African Boxing Union junior bantamweight belt.

These were two of the under cards to the IBF junior lightweight clash between newly-crowned champion Malclom Klassen, and deposed champion Cassius Baloyi in Mafikeng. Promoters Branco Milekovic and Jacob Matlala presented these fights at the University of North West.
