The recent spate of police killings have robbed some families of their loved ones, breadwinners and important figures within their communities.
Sergeant Edwin Khwezi Jada-Maseti, pictured, was born on June 4 1973. He grew up in Dobsonville, Soweto, and matriculated at George Khoza High School.
After matriculating he joined the South African Police Service in 1995. He was stationed at police regional headquarters in Braamfontein.
He was then transferred to the Brixton vehicle unit where he was attached to the vehicle identification section in Aeroton, southern Johannesburg.
Jada-Maseti was a committed police officer who was always available to serve the community. His commitment saw him being incorporated into the unit that was tasked with dealing with car and truck hijacking syndicates around the country.
His team was successful in getting many convictions in hijacking cases. At the time of his death, Jada-Maseti was involved in cracking some of the country's violent hijacking syndicates.
Khwezi, as his friends affectionately called him, was a humble guy. When he was off duty it would be difficult to believe that he was one of our toughest cops, said close friend Linda Ntuli.
Ntuli said Khwezi's death came as a shock to all who knew him. He said he was a people's person who loved life and his family.
Jada-Maseti's colleagues also described him as one of the best within their unit.
He and partner Inspector Sambo were killed while transporting a suspect who was due to appear in a KwaZulu-Natal court on a hijacking charge.
Jada-Maseti is survived by three sons, four brothers and a sister.
He will be buried at Roodepoort Cemetery tomorrow.
His funeral service will start at 9am at Kopanong Hall in Dobsonville and the cortege will leave for the cemetery at 11am.
