Police IX Softball Club manager Katlholo Mosimanegape has warned that they are not coming to Johannesburg for sightseeing, but to make their mark in the Martin Sass Memorial Softball Club Championship next weekend.

The yearly event, which is staged in remembrance of Martin Sass, the father of local black softball, will be staged in Alexandra from April 25 to 27.

Police are among six softball teams from Botswana that will compete in the 10th edition of the tournament. Ten teams from around the country have also confirmed their participation as well as a team from Zimbabwe.

Police made their debut in the tournament when it was staged in Botswana in 2007. It will be the first time they take part in the event in South Africa.

"We are coming down to Alexandra with our men's and women's teams and we want to make an impression there," said Mosimanegape yesterday.

"The fact that we will be playing for the first time in South Africa will not affect us. Our women's team won this tournament in Botswana and I'm convinced they will do the same in South Africa."
