Tshepo's toothpaste verdict

Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Cry, and you cry alone.

This can be said of stand-up comedian Tshepo Mogale, who sometimes prompts his audience with a huge, wide grin when he wants them to laugh at his jokes.

We asked him to give his verdict on five toothpastes.

Tshepo first tried the Aquafresh toothpaste with Triclene, which the packaging says is a patented formula that works to restore teeth to their natural whiteness by helping to gently remove stains.

"Hmm ... it smells like peppermint," he says.

"And tastes ... just like peppermint-flavoured toothpaste.

"I like the swirl of blue that differentiates this brand from all the others which are plain white.

"It has a nice gel texture that isn't too rough.

"It reminds me of myself: Strong, but not too overpowering, definitely not weak, has a fresh moderate flavour."

Colgate Advanced Whitening and stain prevention toothpaste promises whiter teeth in 14 days. Tshepo tastes the famous brand and concludes: "It tastes just like Aquafresh.

"I can't taste the difference.

"It also has a good strong taste but without the blue gel swirl."

Evafresh produces a toothpaste in a fresh, white tube that appeals to the comedian.

"I like the packaging of this brand because it's not cluttered," he says.

"It tastes a bit different, not as strong as the first two but also has a minty flavour.

"There's too much writing on the Mentadent P Whitening packaging," says Tshepo.

"Again, it's not as strong as the first two, but then maybe I've tasted too many brands."

Tshepo claims that this one worked the best at cleaning his teeth:

"Yeah, after this they are really starting to feel clean."

Sensodine produces a whitening toothpaste that, claims Tshepo, is very, very strong.

"I think that this is the best - it really does the job and has an impressive flavour that freshens the mouth the longest so that you don't have to spend your day freshening your breath with gum and mints."

"You definitely cannot drink orange juice after this one," he says.
