The South African Democratic Teachers Union is unhappy about a plan to name and shame members who sexually abuse pupils.
The South African Council of Educators (Sace) has announced that they will - from June - place names of serial sex offender teachers on their website.
Sadtu regional secretary Ronald Nyathi, pictured, said that the council was "out to destroy the teachers' careers".
"It is complete nonsense . Sace is violating a teacher's right to dignity, which is in the Constitution.
"It is their fault teachers do this. They are supposed to run workshops to educate educators but they never do. Instead, they are acting like a small Scorpion - going around sniffing for problems in schools."
But, the president of the National Professional Teachers Organisation of South Africa said it supported the move. "Teachers that molest our pupils . taint our profession and we must do everything to stop them," said Nkwai Ramasehla.
The School Governing Bodies Association's chairperson Tumi Ramasike said it also welcomed the move. "As parents we want our children to be protected in schools. The abuse has been going on for a long time . By humiliating those teachers, it sends a message to others that this is not right."
