The fight fraternity generally feels that Boxing SA's sanctioning committee should not have allowed what is viewed as a mismatch of a fight between Moruti Mthalane and Lehlohonolo Ramagole.
Their concerns are valid. Mthalane, the reigning South African flyweight king, boasts too much experience for Ramagole.
He is an international campaigner. Mthalane, 26, from KwaZulu-Natal, is actually being brushed up for an IBF title eliminator.
He lost to IBF holder Nonito Donaire due to a laceration on his eyelid in Las Vegas last November, and could end Ramagole's career.
Their fight takes place on Saturday at the University of North West in Mafikeng.
Ramagole, 23, was a titlist in the 2006 Baby Champs. He is being used as a stepping stone for the Nick Durandt-trained Mthalane who boasts 22 wins (15 KOs) against two losses.
But Ramagole, from Orlando East in Soweto, whose skills are honed by his father and trainer, Lucky Ramagole, boldly warned: "I'm not letting time and experience measure the potential of what I am capable of doing".
This well-spoken youngster said his uncle, Mike "Tah Baby" Ramagole faced great odds when he defeated favourite Joe "Axe Killer" Ngidi for the SA non-white welterweight belt in 1968.
"History in my clan, which originates in the Free State, will repeat itself," he said. "This is not only an SA title fight but a step towards getting recognition from world sanctioning bodies. I am not taking it lightly. I have done my work as far as Moruti's style in concerned. Come Saturday, a new champion will be crowned".
Ramagole has 11 wins (5 KOs) against two defeats.
Their fight is one of the three title bouts in the bill that will be presented by Branco Sports Production.
