Thembi Nkosi, who was eliminated on Monday from Idols, feels let down by the public that she hoped would keep her in the competition.

Nkosi, 19, of Katlehong on the East Rand, was sent home because she got less public votes. When the Top 12 eliminations started, seasoned singer Mara Louw urged people to vote with their heads not their hearts.

"I really urge people to vote for someone who can really represent South Africa's rainbow nation. Someone who can compete both locally and internationally," Louw said.

In the past few weeks Nkosi had shown that she had the required qualities. A talented singer, she can belt out any type of song. On Sunday night, she gave her best performance, the same way she has done throughout the competition.

The judges and music fans were again impressed. But when the judges dropped a bombshell on Monday she could not believe it.

"I was confused and disappointed that after working so hard I was eliminated. But I understand that it is a competition. One person had to go home."

Nkosi said she would now go back to school.

"I want to go back to school and complete my matric. I will also do a lot of backing vocals before I can really pursue my solo career.

" I learned a lot about the music business," she added.
