l When entering into a lay-by sale you and the seller must agree on the method of payment, how often you have to pay and the date you must finish making the payments. One to three months is common. You can ask for longer, but the seller does not have to agree.
l You can pay any amount so long as the full price is paid within the agreed time.
l You must ask the seller for a lay-by receipt which shows your name, address and contact phone numbers.
l It must show the name, address and phone numbers of the seller/shop.
l Each item you bought must be listed separately along with the price.
l When you cannot meet the terms of payment you can cancel the contract and demand your refund minus 10percent of the contract amount.
l When the seller cannot deliver the goods he/she must refund your money with 10percent interest of the purchase amount.
l Do not enter into lay-by agreements which are longer than three months, that is a recipe for disaster.
