A police constable is hopping mad that he has been sitting at home for more than a month after the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration ordered his employer to reinstate him.

Walter Mnisi, who was attached to the Booysens police station in Johannesburg, was dismissed in June last year after a disciplinary hearing.

He was charged with extortion, perjury and defeating the ends of justice.

Mnisi, who was also a Popcru Gauteng provincial officer, referred the matter to the CCMA which ruled in his favour.

"I want my job back. The CCMA vindicated me," he said.

According to the ruling, Mnisi's dismissal was unfair and he should have been reinstated on March 2.

The SAPS was further ordered to pay him R61902 on or before March 2.

Gauteng police spokesperson Superintendent Lungelo Dlamini said: "The matter has been referred for review by the employer. The member may not resume his duties until the matter is finalised."

Mnisi said he was targeted because he refused to carry out an unlawful instruction by his superior to arrest Nigerians in Rosettenville, whether they hadlegal papers or not.

"I refused the instruction because it was unlawful and that was the beginning of my woes," he said.

He said his cellphone was tapped and his office keys confiscated without giving him an opportunity to remove his belongings.

"Several bogus cases were opened against me, including possession of a stolen car, just to make my life a living hell. My service firearm and bullet proof vest were also confiscated," he said.
