An angry Jackie Selebi wants the Scorpions to produce their evidence against him this morning instead of asking for a postponement.

Selebi is to go on trial in the Johannesburg high court today, facing charges of fraud, racketeering, corruption and defeating the ends of justice.

Selebi told Sowetan that he had no spy tapes of his own implicating the Scorpions in a political conspiracy against him, and that he would not be using the same tactics as ANC president Jacob Zuma to get off the hook.

"I am not interested in using tapes," he said.

"I am only hopeful that my case will go the same way as ANC president Jacob Zuma's because there isn't any evidence of my wrongdoing," Selebi said.

Selebi's legal team will oppose this morning's application for a postponement by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

"They must come and present what evidence they have against me," Selebi said.

Selebi dismissed rumours that he and police intelligence chiefs began bugging former Scorpions head Leonard McCarthy two years ago in the hope of finding their own dirt on the Scorpions.

The Scorpions were investigating Selebi at the time.

Former airports company security chief Paul O'Sullivan has allegedly signed an affidavit saying that while police intelligence was bugging McCarthy, they stumbled across the recorded conversations between McCarthy and former NPA boss Bulelani Ngcuka which were used by Zuma's legal team last week to get the NPA to drop all charges against him..
