Race on to find best taxi driver

The search for the country's number one taxi driver has started. The competition, which promotes responsible driving, is in its fourth year.

The ever-growing Brandhouse/Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) Number One Taxi Driver Campaign aims to find the best taxi driver in the country and to improve the skills of taxi drivers.

Brandhouse spokesperson Priscilla Singh said the selection criteria included drivers who obeyed traffic rules and did not drink and drive.

"The person should drive a roadworthy vehicle and be courteous to their passengers and fellow road users," she said.

Singh said selected drivers would undergo a theory and practical test in June in five districts per province.

She said a regional winner would be chosen and would go on to represent his or her province at the national finals later this year. Each driver would be assessed after taking a theory test based on the K53 model as well as a practical test run by Toyota Advanced Driving Academy.

"The national winner stands to win a Toyota Ses'fikile kombi. Last year's winner was Godfrey Mosala from North West," she said.
