Comedian Trevor Noah has landed the prestigious role of hosting the 15th annual MTN South African Music Awards ceremony next month.
A familiar face across Mzansi, this will be the first time Noah takes charge of the event. "I'm excited about it. This is the biggest show in South Africa. It's well attended and millions of people watch it, so for me it's going to be quite special."
Last year almost 3,5 million viewers tuned in to watch the show and Noah can expect as many, if not more, fans watching his every move live from Sun City's Super Bowl.
Noah had a tiny role in that show and his jokes appeared to outshine those of Kabelo Mabalane who was hosting for the second year running. He has already proved his worth as host of this year's South African Film and Television Award.
Blue Moon executive creative director DJ Grant has conceptualised many of the recent Samas and believes that Noah was a natural choice to take on this role. "It's almost like Trevor passed his auditions last year as a guest presenter for the Sama 14.
He was the one that people remembered most. He was off the cuff, on the ball and witty," Grant said.
