Phillip Labane Nyai, a dedicated family man and businessman who cared for the community, has died.
Nyai died last Friday in the yard of his factory after unidentified gunmen fired several bullets into his body.
Although he had no experience in managing a factory, Nyai founded and ran one successfully.
When he was retrenched from a foam factory, he and some of his former co-workers decided to open a bed manufacturing factory.
From the time he left the SA Clothing and Textile Workers Union as its first deputy president, he dedicated his time to growing his foam and bed manufacturing business based at in Industria, Johannesburg.
Nyai's death has not only shocked his family but the labour movement and his community of Witpoortjie in Roodepoort.
His devastated best friend and neighbour Smanga Toli, said: "Nyai was a dear friend and a dedicated family man who had no enemies. He was a people's person who was loved by everyone. He will be sorely missed."
His funeral service will be held tomorrow at Culembeeck Primary School in Witpoortjie, Roodepoort. The service will start at 7am.
The cortege will leave for Roodepoort Cemetery at 10am.
