The Marite family of Mohlakeng, Randfontein on the West Rand, has spent sleepless nights since their 16-year-old daughter went missing.

They are worried about the whereabouts of their daughter Asanda who went missing on March 1.

Asanda, a Grade 10 pupil at the Barachel Christian Academy in Randfontein, left her grandmother's Mampondo Street home in the township at about 5pm on the day.

"Asanda told my mother-in-law (Mpho Thibini) that she was going to a nearby spaza shop. We have not seen her since. Nobody knows where she is. I left my house in Seme Street at about 5.15pm after watching a soccer match on television to fetch her from her grandma's place. We only realised about an hour later that something was wrong," said Asanda's distraught father Bob Marite.

Marite says they have been to friends and colleagues but none of them has a clue where Asanda is.

Their hopes were raised early last month when someone told them that Asanda frequented a certain carwash in the township.

"We drew a blank when we went to this carwash," he said.

The family has alerted the police and checked at several hospitals on the West Rand.

"We can't sleep and pray that she returns home. We are very worried. We plead with anyone who has seen her to contact me at 076-146-1892 or her mother Vuyiswa at 079-133-4789."
