The Johannesburg Prison "Confederations Cup", a joint project with Safa Soweto, reaches its climax with the finals today.

The Johannesburg Prison "Confederations Cup", a joint project with Safa Soweto, reaches its climax with the finals today.

New Zealand take on Spain at 10.30am in the final, with Iraq and Brazil battling it out in a third place playoff at 8.30am. Bafana Bafana, reigning world champions Italy and African kings Egypt were eliminated in the preliminary rounds.

Safa Soweto chief executive Phil "Chippa" Mogodi said the teams will be presented with playing equipment and trophies.

"Inmates at Sun City prison have decided to be part of the Confederations Cup by adopting the names of the eight countries that will play here in South Africa in June," he said.

"The tournament has been going on for four weeks at the prison's sports grounds. The aim is to create awareness of the Confederations Cup at Sun City.

"As Safa Soweto, we have been working with prison authorities on various projects, we hope to have a similar tournament for the 2010 World Cup."
