KwaZulu-Natal police have warned people to be vigilant of robberies after leaving or going to a bank.

The province has experienced an increase in robberies recently on individuals around banks.

There has been an increase of reported cases of robberies on businesses or people who carried large amounts of money in the past few months.

However, police refused to divulge figures on cases reported on a daily basis.

Superintendent Jay Naicker said police had noticed that armed robbers were targeting people who made large withdrawals.

He said in some instances people were robbed while on their way to deposit money.

Naicker said the criminals usually followed people as they left the banks and robbed them.

He urged people to be alert when withdrawing large sums of cash and to report suspicious individuals to the police.
