More than 23000 police officers will be deployed in KwaZulu-Natal before and after the most contested general election, which will be held in two weeks time.
The province has experienced incidents of political intolerance between members of the IFP and the ANC.
Nongoma, Ulundi, Greytown and Estcourt are regarded as some of the hot spots for political intolerance.
Police spokesperson Director Phindile Radebe said police in the province were putting the final touches to their plans of policing of the elections.
She said the overall safety and security in the province remained stable despite increased levels of tension related to electioneering in some areas.
"We are currently busy with our ongoing intelligence assessments, confirmation of voting stations with the Independent Electoral Commission as well as security provision for political events, demonstrations and VIP visits.
"We have also implemented our roadblock strategy throughout the province, cordon and searches in problematic areas, and intelligence driven firearm searches.
"We are confident that we are in a state of readiness to police the elections successfully in the province," she said.
She issued a stern warning to those who are bent on disrupting the election process.
