University Sports South Africa (Ussa) intend rewriting soccer history by being the first to clinch the new SAB Under-21 national championships in Bloemfontein.

Safa has included Ussa in this revamped tournament, which will be played from April 10 to 18, as one of their associate members.

Star Hlongwane, Ussa's soccer team manager, yesterday said they were excited to have been included in this yearly tournament.

"We have been negotiating with Safa for sometime about our inclusion in this tournament because we feel we can make a meaningful contribution in development.

"We have selected a strong team, the majority of our players are attached to various development teams at university clubs."

The team, which leaves for Mangaung on Thursday, is:

Oscar Motshoikha (Vaal University of Technology), Tumelo Lesito (Vaal University of Technology), Sipho Nyafoza (University of North West), Boalefa Pule (University of North West), Thabo Jonga (Walter Sisulu University), Nasief Fredericks (Northlink College), Xolani Macuphu (Tshwane University of Technology), Bathabile Letsoalo (Tshwane University of Technology), Tshediso Motsukunyane (University of North West (Mafikeng), Gcininkosi Ndabeni (Durban University of Technology), Mlungisi Ntuli (University of North West), Themba Mali (University of North West), Daniel de Almeida (University of Pretoria), Tiro van Rooyen (University of Pretoria), Robyn Swartz (University of Pretoria) and Lesley Malepe (University of Limpopo).
