The Temptations may have only one original member left from the Grammy-award winning days of the 1960s, but that distinctive Motown sound lives on.

Fronted by co-founder Otis Williams, the band promised those at the Sun City Superbowl on Saturday night a "trip down memory lane". A promise they kept.

Despite their age, group members shimmied their way through an 80-minute set that included classics such as My Girl, I Can't Get Next To You and an extended version of Papa Was A Rolling Stone.

For the 5000-strong crowd, it was a chance to see their childhood heroes perform.

For Williams, 50 years as a member of the Temptations is a significant milestone. The four original members have all passed on and many have joined and left since the original group formed in 1960.

Williams' voice still has that distinctive edge and the high notes are still attainable.

Backing up the singers was a six-piece band that set the stage for a relaxed yet polished performance.
